Ebola Outbreak Forum at All Saints Memorial Church
7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. - September 11, 2014
Rhode Island is home to the largest Liberian population in the country. Citizens of Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra-Leone, Ghana, and other countries have been affected. Quarantines have been established, and there have been many protests because the health care infrastructures in these countries are often inadequate to cope with this disease. While there have been some remarkable cures, there is also fear for the safety of unaffected populations.
All Saints Memorial Church will host a panel of experts on Sept 11, to discuss the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Guest speakers will include Dr. Maria Melino, an infectious disease physician; Elaine Williams, a local nurse who has been working with Rhode Island’s Liberian community; Bill McBorrough, a local African with many friends and family in affected areas; and Donald Cunnigen, Professor of Sociology at URI, will moderate the panel.
Joins us for a panel discussions on health and safety, tips on how to communicate with family and friends in affected areas, and a Q&A with the panelists. Donations will be accepted for Episcopal Relief and Development. Refreshments will follow.
