RISEN Magazine is The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island's News and special interest magazine. We switched from a newspaper format to the current full color journal in 2007. By doing so, we have been able to focus our attention on producing an award winning print periodical with staying power. Each issue of RISEN centers on a timely theme and features articles that aim to inform, enlighten and inspire. It is published quarterly and has a circulation of around 9,000.

Thanks to Ruth Meteer, whose splendid article, Community Gardens in the May issue of RISEN, highlights ways in which our Diocese is becoming involved in community gardens of all sorts. From the siting of examples within our parishes and communities to sharing resources that support the specifics of the process, she keeps a focus on the ministry associated with each approach. I'd like to add to the information she shared by inviting readers to take a look at Cindy Rollins' worm composting articles on the GreenWays website, www.greenwaysri.wordpress.com, in which she describes her process as a novice worm composter/gardener. Cindy's entries are full of information about the "how to's" and laced with humor and insight. You might wonder how that applies to community gardening. If you are in South County you can take a look at the newly sprouting garden being tended by St. Peter's-by-the-Sea and St. Augustine's Churches. There are some three gallon jugs of worm composting "tea" standing at the ready to help fertilize this community effort. If you visit the GreenWays site and keep scrolling down, you can read all of Cindy's worm composting articles thus far....and know that she will be adding more.
